October 2011

Hello again,

Alarm receiving centre's (ARC's) more than often answer their installer's phone lines outside of normal working hours and co-ordinate their engineers for out of hours breakdown calls.

Although there are escalation processes for the engineer not responding and accepting the request for the breakdown callout, little thought is given to the well being of the engineer when they are actually out and about in the early hours.

The engineer is in fact a lone worker and as such businesses are generally unaware of the threat of a potential prosecution under the Corporate Manslaughter & Corporate Homicide Act 2007.

Following the successful conviction of Cotswold Geotechnical (Holdings) earlier this year in the first case under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007, the Crown Prosecution Service have instructed Greater Manchester Police to charge Lion Steel Ltd in the second prosecution of its kind. The company will be charged with corporate manslaughter and three directors of the company are charged with gross negligence manslaughter. Both the company and the directors are also charged with offences under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

To assist our customers with their corporate liability we have introduced a range of services using the duty engineers existing mobile phone thereby negating any additional hardware costs, this enables the duty engineer to be looked after by a virtual carer in SMS or NMS. The basic Archangel Service provides duty of care for the employee and the Smartphone Procare service and also the dedicated device for Companion service, provides additional benefits such as web based reporting software reporting live on location, time and attendance and speed of travel, to name but a few of the useful reports.

The service is delivered through both our Southern and Northern ARC's and therefore falls within our high integrity "no interruption" to service platform as indeed our entire monitoring services do.

For more details on our lone worker and virtual carer services give us a call.

Bye for now,

Steve
