Connections

January 2007

Hello Again,

Happy New Year and welcome to the first January 2007 edition of Connections.

Last month I made the statement that “the current and forthcoming changes in the Fire, Security and CCTV marketplaces lead us to take the view that the BSIA are now not best placed to service our needs in the electronic security systems sector and in our opinion no longer give value for money. Therefore, as of the 31st December 2006 Southern Monitoring Services Ltd will no longer remain members of the BSIA”.

Well, as stated we have now resigned from the BSIA Security Systems Section after some 14 years of membership. During this time I have had the privilege of working with many individuals who care passionately about our industry, some of whom are even competitors of ours!

It is was with this in mind and with a great deal of soul searching on my part, that I finally came to the conclusion that the BSIA as an Association is not where I felt the Fire & Security Systems interests are best served going forward.

The normal function of a Trade Association in the form of lobbying, guidance, developing Standards, marketing/PR and research, is a given. However, as an active member who made representation to the wider world on behalf of our industry, I have a business to run, at some stage an Association has to take up the cause.

Wouldn’t it be good if there was an Association that in addition to the normal functions also gave major financial and commercial benefits to our businesses, nurturing a cradle to grave approach to the development of all Fire & Security Companies, irrespective of their size or whether they are Quality Assured or not?

An Association that provided their own back office services for Contract Law, Employment Law, with their own insurance company bonding all the installation work you undertake. On top of that, what if the Association was approved as a scheme operator for TrustMark, a government endorsed consumer protection initiative?

Does it sound too good to be true? What if I were to say that on the top of the private health care, health checks, death & disability insurance, sick benefit and savings in holiday National Insurance Contributions for both the employer and employee, there was also an ability to get a rebate to offset against your annual membership fees?

It’s not too good to be true, it’s real and if you want to know more give me a call.

Bye for now,

Steve
